Jessi

by:Terranya Tiamson

“Why does everything look different, the sky, the people, the animals...?”, she asked herself and found her own answer. She was really perplexed and kept repeating her own name. It was her first day and she understood nothing except the emptiness, the dullness inside her.

The next day she was left at the heart of the city. “These buildings were really towering”, she whispered, “yet they seem so fragile from where I came from”. She observed some more trying to look where she might fit in, unmistakably found none. She just watched the young couples walk, hands clasping each other and while others moved briskly, some were too lazy. Her second day was as dull as her first.

It was totally different the third day for she woke up hungry for the first time. She ate but the food was tasteless and seemed only like coarse bits going inside nowhere within her. Suddenly, she heard voices from the living room that made her felt fear. “Thank goodness, it was just what they call television”, she told herself. She sat down and watched what was being shown. It was a film about friendship and love. She never went out that day but was filled with something she didn’t know.

Early that next morning she went to what they call “park”. She met a man that bothered her at first but before midday they were already close friends. She stayed with him till dusk and he with her, talking about anything. She thought she understood, she thought it was the same with what she saw yesterday. She thought she felt “love” and happiness that she thought endless.

She lost track of time unlike before when it seemed so important to her before she met the man. It was maybe a week or two. Yes, they had been good together and that made her very unlike her first day. A month passed and the man was nowhere, no word, not even a shadow in her dreams. She misses their happy days together, his touch, and his voice. Grief overcome her, she wanted to cry but had no tears.

“This is a fine day, I’ll go to that park where I might find him”, she thought. When she opened the door a bouquet of white and blue roses greeted her. She picked it up and read the card attached to it, “Nuptials”. She hardly saw the names inscribed because the tears just flowed. Something struck her deep and she can hardly breathe. She wanted to stop moving, thinking, feeling. She can’t find reasons, answers to all the questions that kept rising in her mind. She wanted to be gone .....and she was.
